Kleine Zalze has stood at the heart of Stellenbosch since 1695 — a wine estate where history and terroir quietly shape every bottle. Deeply rooted in tradition yet continuously evolving, Kleine Zalze is known for crafting honest, authentic wines that express place with precision and purpose.

In 2022, the estate entered a new chapter under AdVini, one of France’s most respected wine groups. The partnership brought global insight and expertise, while preserving what matters most — the estate’s identity, its people, and its unwavering sense of place in the Cape Winelands.

At Kleine Zalze, great wine begins long before harvest. Every decision starts in the vineyard, guided by a simple philosophy: grow each varietal where it truly belongs. Rather than owning vineyards, the team carefully sources fruit from regions where specific grapes perform at their best. Cabernet Sauvignon finds structure and depth in Stellenbosch. Chardonnay achieves clarity and elegance in Robertson. Sauvignon Blanc thrives in the cool maritime climates of Durbanville and Darling, where coastal breezes preserve freshness and natural balance.

Working closely with a trusted network of growers, Kleine Zalze’s viticulturist ensures consistency, sustainability, and meticulous vineyard care year after year. With accreditations including WIETA, IPW and Fairtrade, responsibility is not a trend — it is part of the foundation.

The estate has become a recognised leader in Cabernet Sauvignon and Chenin Blanc, and today stands as the largest producer of Heritage Certified Old Vine Chenin Blanc in South Africa. Many of these vines, planted more than 35 years ago in weathered granite soils, continue to yield fruit of remarkable depth and character.

From the vibrant, fruit-driven wines of the Cellar Selection, crafted for effortless everyday enjoyment, to the expressive depth and structure of the Vineyard Selection, each wine reflects a distinct sense of place. The Family Reserve range represents the pinnacle of the cellar’s craft — limited releases that showcase precision, character and ageing potential at the highest level. Completing the portfolio, our elegant Cap Classique captures the art of celebration, while Project Z pushes boundaries through small-batch, exploratory winemaking. Together, these ranges ensure that Kleine Zalze offers a wine for every occasion.

Hospitality forms a natural extension of the winemaking philosophy. The Kleine Zalze Restaurant, led by acclaimed chef Nic van Wyk, offers refined yet approachable dining rooted in honest, timeless cooking. Guests are invited to experience each dish in their own way — whether shared tapas-style, enjoyed as lighter fare, or savoured as traditional mains. Just steps away, the tasting centre provides a tranquil space to discover the estate’s award-winning wines — under vine-covered pergolas in summer or beside a crackling fire in winter.

At Kleine Zalze, standing still is never an option. Each vintage brings thoughtful innovation — from refined sourcing decisions to progressive fermentation and maturation techniques — ensuring the wines remain relevant, respected and trusted on both local and international stages.
